Iran has stated that US attacks damaged 111 petrochemical and pharmaceutical facilities across the country, disrupting the industrial supply chain and implementation of the international treaty against chemical weapons.
According to Iranian media, Iranian representative Hadi Farajvand informed the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) that US military actions against Iran’s chemical industries had affected the supply chain and created obstacles to implementing the Chemical Weapons Convention.
Hadi Farajvand noted that the facilities impacted by the US attacks included centers in the petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. Iran had previously also expressed concern to the OPCW regarding attacks on its industrial and chemical facilities.
Iranian officials argue that targeting such facilities could lead to the release of hazardous chemical substances, posing significant risks to public health and the environment. Iran has warned that attacks on chemical and industrial infrastructure not only impact domestic production and supply chains but could also have potential environmental consequences reaching other countries in the region.
