Tennessee Death Row Inmate Christa Pike Unconscious After Failed Execution Attempt, Lawyers Say

BBC News reports that Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike was left unconscious, intubated, and on a ventilator after authorities failed to execute her by lethal injection on Wednesday.

Pike, 50, received two doses of pentobarbital but remained alive. She was subsequently transported to a Nashville, Tennessee, hospital, where she remained critically ill.

Her lawyers are now seeking to commute her sentence after the failed execution attempt.

Pike was sentenced to death in 1996 for the murder of Colleen Slemmer.
