War With Iran Could Continue Until End of Trump’s Presidency, Senior Advisers Warn

US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and others discussed their concerns with President Donald Trump during briefings at the Oval Office and Situation Room, according to a US broadcaster citing sources.
Senior White House advisers have privately warned President Trump that the war with Iran could continue until the end of his presidency. The broadcaster reported that during these briefings, they expressed worry about Iran’s potential prolonged resistance against US blockade and military tactics.
According to Trump’s advisers, the conflict could extend until January 2029, after the upcoming midterm elections in November. This contradicts Trump’s previous claim that the war would end immediately after the elections as Iran would be unable to continue resisting.
The broadcaster noted that both JD Vance and Marco Rubio are considered potential candidates for the next presidential election, although neither has officially declared their candidacy.
This admission by senior US aides stands in contrast to Trump’s assertions that the United States has defeated Iranian forces and that Iran will surrender soon. In anticipation of a potentially prolonged conflict, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has extended until 2027 the deployment of some troops in the Middle East to provide President Trump with military options.
