WASA Suspends Regular Staff, Dismisses Work-charge Employees Over Union Clash
Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) Faisalabad has taken decisive action against employees involved in a violent clash between rival labor groups. They have suspended all regular staff found involved and initiated proceedings under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act. Additionally, the services of all work-charge employees implicated in the incident have been terminated.
This move comes after a clash between office-bearers and members of Mazdoor Ittehad Union and WASA Employees Union at WASA Headquarters on Saturday. Qadeer Sikandar, a WASA spokesman, stated that the administration is adopting a zero-tolerance approach towards any disruption of discipline, peace, and order within their offices.
All regular employees identified as participants in the altercation have been suspended immediately, while formal departmental proceedings under the PEEDA Act have begun. Work-charge employees found involved have also been dismissed with immediate effect.
Earlier, WASA administration had registered cases against both unions without discrimination. They emphasized that no employee or group would be allowed to take the law into their own hands or create a hostile environment at the agency’s headquarters. Strict and impartial action will be taken against anyone responsible for disturbing law and order, regardless of their union affiliation.
The recent disciplinary action is seen as a strong message to employees and union representatives, encouraging them to resolve internal differences through lawful institutional channels rather than confrontation or violence. The WASA authority directed that departmental rules and discipline must be strictly observed, and no one will be permitted to use union affiliation as a shield against accountability.
