Watch: The location of Israel’s proposed West Bank settlement that the UK opposes

Where is Israel’s proposed West Bank settlement the UK opposes?

The BBC’s Middle East correspondent, Lucy Williamson, reports from Ma’ale Adumim, an existing Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank, overlooking Israel’s proposed E1 site.

UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced sanctions on Israeli settlements in the West Bank during a speech to Parliament on Tuesday, aiming to "deter settlement expansion" and "prevent the development of E1". Israel has recently invited tenders for the construction of some 1,200 settlement homes at the proposed site.

Miliband stated that he would ban the import of goods from Israel’s "illegal settlements" in the West Bank and accused the Israeli government of turning a "blind eye" to "settler terrorists" conducting "ethnic cleansing".

In response, Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar criticized the UK government as "hostile" and announced that Israel would close the British consulate in Jerusalem.
