We Will Contact PPP Leadership To End Levy If Needed: Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman

The government contacted us during the sit-ins, but we apologized, said Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman at a Karachi press conference.
KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th Sep, 2026) Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has stated that the government reached out to them during the sit-ins, but they expressed regret.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, he explained that the government had sought proposals for reducing petroleum product prices and they were submitting suggestions as they were open to negotiations. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman asserted that the petroleum levy was unrelated to global market fluctuations but rather a result of the government’s incompetence.
He further added that they had engaged with opposition parties to increase pressure on the government. He questioned whether experts were unaware of how to lower prices, noting that the Sindh Assembly had passed a resolution calling for the abolition of the levy. Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman stated that despite their differences with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), they should discuss this issue with the government. He emphasized that if needed, they would contact the PPP leadership to abolish the levy.
