Savinho’s imminent £75m move to Tottenham Hotspur will mark a significant milestone for the City Football Group (CFG). This record sale, involving Manchester City’s most notable club within the CFG portfolio, highlights the group’s success in player trading.
While Savinho’s time under CFG ownership has been controversial, his journey from Atletico Mineiro to Troyes, PSV, Girona, and finally Manchester City reveals a strategic multi-club model at play. Sent on loan to both Dutch and Spanish clubs, Savinho honed his skills before a high-profile purchase by City in 2024 for £30.8m.
Despite limited success in the Premier League (just two goals and 12 assists over two seasons), Savinho’s sale generates substantial profits for CFG – potentially reaching £70m with add-ons.
Quique Carcel, director of football at Girona, praised Savinho’s impact during his loan spell, noting City’s interest in integrating him into their first team squad from an early stage.
"It’s a success story for the group," CFG representative stated.
