Man City inflict first defeat on Liverpool with statement win

Published 34 minutes ago
Manchester City (4-3-3):
- Gianluigi Donnarumma (7): Had a shaky start but made crucial saves to deny Koumas and Gravenberch.
- Matheus Nunes (7): Impressive display, making a great tackle in the box.
- Ruben Dias (7): Stood firm at centre-half, keeping Liverpool out.
- Marc Guehi (7): Solid performance alongside Dias.
- Nico O'Reilly (6): Solid going forward but had his work cut out against Munoz and was booked.
- Elliot Anderson (*): Constantly involved but fortunate not to be booked for pulling Gravenberghe down.
- Iliman Ndiaye (*):
- Jeremy Doku (7): Scored the second goal, a beautiful finish.
- Rayan Cherki (8): Created and scored the third, showing some solid footwork.
- Erling Haaland (7): Got on the scoresheet with a powerful strike.
Liverpool (4-3-3):
- Alisson (5): Could do nothing about Haaland's strike and was beaten by Doku's beauty, some solid footwork from Cherki followed.
- Ronald Araujo (5): Got an unnecessary yellow card early on, which contributed to Man City's goals.
- Virgil van Dijk (6): Often out of position trying to help Liverpool deal with a numerically superior City midfield. Could have closed Haaland down quicker.
- Jeremy Jacquet (6): A young talent who was impressive but had an eye-opening experience against City's attack.
- Milos Kerkez (5): Battled well but lacked quality in the final third.
- Alexis Mac Allister (5): Grew into the game, but struggled after Liverpool went down to 10 men.
- Ryan Gravenberch (6): Best player for Liverpool until sent off; naive on his part.
- Victor Munoz (7): A fearsome figure, causing Nico O'Reilly all sorts of problems.
- Florian Wirtz (4): Ineffective and made poor decisions, especially in a game of this magnitude.
- Bradley Barcola (5): Solid defensively but lacking in the final third.
- Lewis Koumas (7): Energetic display loved by the Anfield crowd in his first Premier League start.
