Wrong Routes, Heavy Cost: ITP Fines 400 Rickshaw Drivers, Impounds Over 150 in Week
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Aug, 2026) Taking a tough line against rickshaws entering restricted areas of the Federal capital, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued challan tickets to over 400 rickshaw drivers and impounded more than 150 rickshaws during the past week as part of intensified enforcement to improve traffic flow and road safety.
An official told APP on Saturday that the action was being carried out on the directions of IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, who had ordered strict enforcement against rickshaws illegally entering restricted areas. The official said special teams had been formed and deployed at different locations, including rural areas, to check illegal entry and other traffic violations.
Special checkpoints have also been established on Islamabad Expressway, Colonel Sher Khan Avenue, Murree Road, Seventh Avenue, and Ninth Avenue to strengthen enforcement.
During the past week, more than 400 rickshaw drivers were issued challan tickets, while over 150 rickshaws were impounded at different police stations for violations.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Islamabad, Kainat Azhar Khan urged rickshaw drivers to follow their designated routes, comply with traffic laws, and avoid entering restricted areas. She said zonal Deputy Superintendents of Police had been directed to submit daily reports on enforcement against rickshaws to ensure effective monitoring and continuity of the campaign.
The CTO said action against traffic violations would continue without discrimination, adding that the objective was to protect citizens from road accidents and maintain smooth traffic flow across the federal capital.
