Kashmiris, India’s Religious Minorities Face Relentless Repression Under BJP Rule: Report
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 22nd Aug, 2026) As the world observes International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief, on August 22, atrocities against Kashmiris in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and religious minorities across India continue unabated.
A report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service on the occasion states that Indian forces are denying Kashmiri people their right to freely observe religious practices, including preventing senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from attending Friday prayers and other gatherings.
It highlights that New Delhi has snatched every right, including political and religious rights, from the people of IIOJK, while demographic changes in the territory reflect a broader policy of marginalization.
According to the report, Muslims in India are facing:
- Killings
- Arbitrary arrests
- Torture
- Intimidation
This includes violence carried out in the name of cow protection and coercion to chant Hindutva slogans. The 2002 Gujarat massacre, communal killings, and demolitions of Muslim homes and religious sites are cited as examples of the persecution of minorities.
