2,778 New Water Filtration Plants Being Established in 9 Districts: CM Maryam

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has reviewed progress on clean drinking water projects across the province and directed authorities to expedite completion for ensuring safe water access to the people.

During a meeting focused on water provision, held on Tuesday, the CM examined detailed updates on projects in Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Talagang, Attock, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Rahim Yar Khan, and Chakwal.

The meeting revealed that 2,778 new water filtration plants are under construction in nine districts. The CM also expressed satisfaction with water bottling projects in Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Khushab, and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Officials reported:

  • Each bottling point provides 2,500 bottles of drinking water daily.
  • Each bottling plant can produce 5,000 liters of clean water per hour.
  • Small dams are being constructed in the Potohar region.

Key Project Clusters:

  • Cluster-I (Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan): 570 out of 702 planned filtration plants completed. Includes 95 reverse osmosis (RO) and 52 ultrafiltration (UF) plants in areas with saline groundwater.
  • Cluster-V (Talagang, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Attock, Murree, Chakwal): 902 out of 1,180 filtration plants completed. Includes 231 RO plants in saline water zones.
  • Cluster-XIV (Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar): 749 out of 892 sites completed. The government is also installing 130 RO plants, 64 UF plants, and multimedia filtration plants in areas with saline groundwater.

The CM directed authorities to:

  • Rehabilitate 736 non-functional water filtration plants.
  • Ensure timely completion of all ongoing projects.

"Access to clean water is a basic right," stated the CM, emphasizing the urgency of project completion.
