Acting President Gilani Stresses Collective Responsibility For Protecting Pakistan’s Biodiversity
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Sep, 2026) Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sunday, stated that Pakistan is blessed with extraordinary biodiversity and some of the world's most remarkable wildlife, emphasizing that safeguarding this natural heritage is a shared responsibility.
Addressing Safari Club International, Pakistan Chapter’s international conservation fundraiser gala dinner, he noted their experience demonstrated that conservation efforts thrive when parliament, government, local communities, hunters, hunting outfitters, and conservation organizations collaborate.
"Ethical and responsible hunting, when conducted lawfully and sustainably, can contribute to wildlife conservation by generating meaningful benefits for communities living alongside wildlife," he added.
To make a tangible difference on the ground, Gilani highlighted the necessity of a legislative and policy framework that considers the views and expertise of communities, wildlife professionals, hunters, hunting outfitters, and other legitimate stakeholders. He encouraged close coordination among these groups to ensure responsible hunting aligned with biodiversity and conservation goals.
The acting president further opined that it's crucial to acknowledge the valid role of responsible hunters who respect the law, adhere to ethical standards, and contribute to conservation and community development. Their rights should be balanced with their responsibilities toward wildlife and future generations, he said. He also recognized licensed hunting outfitters as important stakeholders, emphasizing their link between hunters, wildlife authorities, and local communities, and their field experience could enhance sustainable hunting and wildlife management.
The event gathered Syed Sumsam Bukhari, former federal and provincial minister and Chairman Safari Club International, Pakistan Chapter; former ministers; international delegates; SCI representatives and its Pakistan chapter members; as well as federal and provincial wildlife authority representatives.
Gilani expressed appreciation for the SCI Pakistan chapter in organizing this gathering, bringing together national and international participants dedicated to wildlife conservation, advocacy, hunter rights, and responsible hunting. He noted such platforms allow for sharing international experiences while also disseminating Pakistan's knowledge and expertise across diverse ecological regions. He recognized organizations like SCI and the SCI Foundation for their roles in supporting conservation, wildlife management, education, and international cooperation, representing responsible hunters.
