AJK to Elect President on September 24
MIRPUR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – September 15, 2026) The election for the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir will be held on September 24, 2026, as per the announcement by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission.
Election Schedule:
- Nomination Papers: To be filed with the Returning Officer between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on September 19. Scrutiny will also take place on the same day.
- Withdrawal of Nomination Papers: Candidates can withdraw their papers by 11:30 a.m. on September 23.
- Polling: Scheduled to be held at the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat on September 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..
- Result Announcement: Counting of votes and declaration of the result will occur on the same day after polling concludes, with the President elected by a majority vote.
The event was attended by Senior Member of the Election Commission Khawaja Muhammad Ahsan and Member Syed Nazir-ul-Hassan Gilani.
