Al Maleh and Fishing Festival 2026: Celebrating UAE’s Maritime Heritage and Traditional Crafts

The 13th edition of the Al Maleh and Fishing Festival, organized by SCCI and Dibba Al Hisn City Municipality, is captivating visitors with its display of UAE's maritime heritage and traditional crafts. This event, concluding on Sunday, offers a unique glimpse into the country's rich coastal history.
Key Attractions:
- Marine Heritage Displays: Exploring the traditions and livelihoods that have defined Emirati coastal communities.
- Hands-on Experiences: Visitors can engage with fishermen and practitioners, learning traditional methods of sail-making, boatbuilding, fishing tool crafting, and Al Maleh (salted fish) preparation.
- Traditional Crafts and Handicrafts: A showcase of maritime-themed crafts and handicrafts.
Festival Highlights:
Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI, emphasized the festival's significance in preserving and celebrating the UAE's maritime heritage. He noted its role in providing a platform for craftspeople to share their expertise and engage with visitors directly.
Ahmed Abdullah Baghdad Al Darbaki, from Dibba Al Hisn, shared his participation by exhibiting and selling various salted and dried fish products, including traditional varieties like Al Qabab and Al Jara.
Ali Saeed Mohammed Al Rabeh also featured a diverse selection of traditional salted fish products, highlighting the festival's educational aspect by familiarizing visitors with different fish varieties and their uses.
Omar Al Dhahouri, a fisherman from Dibba Al Hisn, reflected on the historical importance of maritime heritage and fishing as a vital source of livelihood for coastal communities.
