The district administration has launched a major anti-encroachment operation in four central markets following public complaints, removing illegal encroachments and confiscating goods placed outside shops.
According to the administration, the operation was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner D.I. Khan Dr. Muhammad Hamid Siddique in Muslim Bazaar, Bakhri Bazaar, Commissioner Bazaar, and Rahim Bazaar. Officials from TMA, local police, traffic police, WSSC, and the revenue department participated in the drive.
During a detailed inspection of the markets, he directed officials to immediately remove and seize goods illegally placed on public spaces, footpaths, and passageways outside shops.
The action significantly reduced congestion in the markets and improved traffic flow while creating wider and safer passageways for pedestrians.
He also warned shopkeepers against exceeding their designated shop limits.
Two shops were sealed on the spot for violating the instructions, while further legal action would be taken against the concerned individuals under the Removal of Encroachments Act, 1977.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the administration had acted promptly on complaints regarding congestion in the four markets. He added that the operation would improve traffic movement, facilitate safe pedestrian access, and ensure the permanent removal of illegal encroachments from public and government property.
Special teams have also been assigned to conduct daily follow-up inspections to prevent encroachments from reappearing.
