Balochistan Completes 4km Desilting Of Pat Feeder Canal

Balochistan has completed desilting over a four-kilometre stretch of the Pat Feeder Canal as work progresses on Package-I of the canal system’s remodelling project.
According to documents available with Wealth Pakistan:
- Package-I of the Remodelling of Pat Feeder Canal System, Balochistan, was awarded at a cost of Rs15.750 billion.
The documents highlight the following progress:
- Desilting completed over four kilometres, with obstacles removed from the canal bed.
- Concrete lining completed over one kilometre stretch.
- Canal banks prepared over 2.3 kilometres.
- Canal diversion work in progress over a seven-kilometre stretch.
- Several preparatory activities, including joint survey, pre-construction survey, provision of accommodation facilities, laboratory establishment, and issuance of drawings, completed.
- Land acquisition survey finished, with the award process ongoing.
- Over 200 houses identified as encroachments within the canal’s right-of-way demolished.
The ongoing activities are part of Package-I of a broader Remodelling of Pat Feeder Canal System being undertaken by the Irrigation Department of the Government of Balochistan.
The remodelling aims to:
- Improve irrigation efficiency,
- Reduce water losses, and
- Ensure a more reliable water supply to farmlands across Balochistan.
Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen agricultural productivity and support long-term water resource management in the province.
