Cabinet Body Approves Design of National Integrated Energy Plan 2027–2060
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – August 18, 2026) The Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) on Tuesday approved the high-level design of Pakistan’s National Integrated Energy Plan (IEP) 2027–2060, marking a significant milestone towards establishing a coordinated approach to energy planning.
The Cabinet Committee reviewed the presentation by the Ministry of Energy (Power Division). The IEP aims to provide a comprehensive framework for Pakistan’s energy sector, moving beyond isolated subsector planning. It will facilitate cross-sectoral coordination between federal and provincial institutions, optimizing resources and investments.
This high-level design is structured around four key pillars:
- Energy: Securing a reliable and resilient energy system.
- Economics: Promoting a competitive and financially sustainable energy sector.
- Equity: Ensuring an inclusive and just energy transition for all.
- Environment: Achieving a low-carbon, sustainable, and climate-resilient future.
The IEP promises substantial benefits:
- Reduced fragmentation in decision-making.
- More efficient use of Pakistan’s energy resources.
- Better coordination of investments and infrastructure.

By utilizing indigenous resources, integrating renewables, and embracing emerging technologies like energy storage, the IEP seeks to reduce reliance on imported energy where feasible. Ultimately, it aims to ensure reliable, affordable, and accessible energy for all Pakistanis while prioritizing environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
