A Chinese business delegation comprising representatives from agriculture, livestock, poultry, food chain and chemical sector companies visited Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture (MNSUA) on Tuesday to explore business and academic collaboration opportunities in South Punjab.
Speaking at the event, members of the delegation expressed delight about their visit and highlighted the strength of Pakistan-China relations. They met with university officials, academics, and political leaders to identify potential ventures enhancing productivity in poultry, agriculture-related businesses, food chains, and allied sectors.
MNSUA Vice Chancellor Asif Ali noted that the government had approved a bio-pesticide and new seed policy, emphasizing the link between agriculture and climate. He pointed out that China invests nearly 50% of global R&D funding in agriculture, benefiting diverse sectors through commercialization, productivity, and food chain development.
MPA Rana Iqbal Siraj, who facilitated the delegation’s visit, described South Punjab as a fertile agricultural region with vast opportunities, particularly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He called for government support to establish an expo center, agro-IT facility, and tax-free export zone to facilitate international market access.
Senator Rana Mahmood-ul-Hassan highlighted South Punjab’s role as Pakistan’s food basket and granary, emphasizing the potential positive impacts of local decisions on both countries given China’s successful poverty alleviation model.
The delegation, consisting of representatives from Yuqili, Wang, Zhaoyi, Lambert, and Zhangwei companies in livestock, poultry, chemical, and value-added food sectors, conducted separate discussions to explore business opportunities in these areas.
