Commissioner Directs Effective, Public-friendly Sanitation System Under Suthra Punjab Program
RAWALPINDI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 1st Sep, 2026) Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Salman Ghani, on Tuesday directed authorities to enhance the sanitation system under the Suthra Punjab Program, making it more efficient and user-friendly. He instructed relevant departments to improve cleanliness standards and deliver visible results across the division.
During a crucial meeting at the Commissioner’s Office in Rawalpindi, he emphasized public service as a primary government responsibility. Additional Commissioner Coordination, Xenia Humayun, Managing Director Suthra Punjab Agency Rawalpindi, and other officers attended, while deputy commissioners of Jhelum, Murree, Attock, and Chakwal participated via video link.
Commissioner Ghani highlighted the need for field supervision by officers and stressed timely salary payments to sanitation staff. He directed the construction of boundary walls around waste enclosures and transfer stations to prevent garbage accumulation in public spaces.
The commissioner ordered round-the-clock operations of sanitation control rooms, monitoring field work, public complaints, vehicles, and other activities. Integrating the Safe City system with Suthra Punjab was proposed to identify unauthorized garbage dumping. He promptly directed officials to take corrective measures at identified sites and continue field surveillance until cleaning operations are completed.
Additionally, he instructed authorities to ensure proper placement of high-quality, clean, and well-maintained waste containers. Damaged or insufficient containers should be replaced immediately. The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company informed the meeting that 3,400 new waste drums have been installed across Rawalpindi for improved waste management.
Commissioner Ghani also tasked the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) with facilitating coordination between housing societies and the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company for efficient waste collection and disposal within respective areas. He believed this collaboration would enhance sanitation efforts.
