Constitution Must Remain Supreme in Exercise of Powers: CJ FCCP

Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCCP) Justice Aminuddin Khan on Tuesday stressed that the Constitution must be kept supreme in the exercise of powers, stating that adhering to the Constitution is essential for ensuring societal stability.
Addressing a ceremony marking the opening of the new judicial year of the Federal Constitutional Court, the Chief Justice noted that the Constitution clearly outlines the powers and limitations of state institutions. He highlighted that the beginning of a new judicial year is a time to renew the commitment to justice. The Federal Constitutional Court has effectively fulfilled its constitutional duties, deciding several significant cases since its establishment.
Justice Aminuddin emphasized that access to justice is a right for every citizen and that non-discriminatory constitutional justice should remain a top priority. He explained that cases are assigned for hearing through a transparent process, emphasizing the importance of judicial independence in any society.
The Chief Justice also emphasized the need for greater utilization of modern technology in judicial affairs, stating it enhances institutional capacity and transparency. He noted that judicial cooperation is being strengthened through foreign visits and other initiatives, and that visits by bar associations and delegations to the Federal Constitutional Court are significant.
Reaffirming the FCCP’s commitment to its constitutional responsibilities, he pledged to promote cooperation between the bar and the bench and work to strengthen public confidence in the justice system.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council, Masood Chishti, praised Justice Aminuddin Khan‘s exemplary performance as the head of the Federal Constitutional Court. He acknowledged the significant challenge of establishing the FCCP’s institutional structure, but expressed confidence in the court’s dedication to its constitutional duties with seriousness, balance, and insight.
President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Haroon Rasheed, described participating in the new judicial year’s ceremony as an honor and congratulated the judges. He highlighted the Supreme Court Bar’s consistent emphasis on the need for a specialized forum to resolve constitutional disputes and expressed hope that the FCCP would perform its duties with impartiality and integrity.
Attorney General for Pakistan, Mansoor Usman Awan, noted that the Federal Constitutional Court commenced its functions on November 13, 2025. Unlike other courts with historical precedents, he observed, the FCCP is still establishing its own legacy. He emphasized that how the court’s initial years would be remembered would be shaped by its future work.
