District Emergency Operations Center (DEOC) has been established in Lasbela, on the directive of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, to address natural disasters and weather hazards. The center was inaugurated on Friday by Azat Foundation in collaboration with the district administration, with assistance from the United Nations World Food Programme (UN-WFP).

The primary objective is to:

  • Monitor weather conditions continuously.
  • Timely identify potential hazards.
  • Implement an effective early warning system.
  • Promptly disseminate emergency information.

The DEOC is equipped with an automatic weather station for timely data on weather changes and potential risks.

Deputy Commissioner Lasbela Humaira Baloch, representatives from UN-WFP, Azat Foundation, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), government departments, NGOs, and the local community attended the ceremony.

Baloch emphasized the center’s importance in mitigating natural disaster risks and protecting the public. She highlighted that an efficient early warning system would ensure timely communication to relevant institutions and the public. Effective communication between agencies during emergencies significantly reduces loss of life and property.
