We are ready to account for 18 years in Sindh; Pakistan cannot be handed over to ethnic politics again, says the senior provincial minister.
KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Sep, 2026) Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has rejected any division of the provinces, asking what difference television channel surveys make.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, he stated that the division of Sindh was entirely unacceptable and that the Sindh Assembly had already passed a resolution on the issue. He accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) of promoting ethnic politics and claimed that Pakistan could not be subjected to ethnic politics once again.
Memon condemned the use of Afghan territory for terrorism in Pakistan and paid tribute to the armed forces for their courageous fight. Referring to President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to China, he praised the Pakistan-China friendship, describing it as higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the sea. He noted that Sindh and China’s Hainan province were sister regions.
He mentioned that the Sindh government was organizing an investment conference in China, which would be attended by the chief minister. He highlighted China Electric's investment in the Thar coal project, expecting agreements worth billions of rupees at the upcoming conference. He stated that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had always attracted international investors to Sindh.
Memon noted that the PPP had faced conspiracies and propaganda since its inception. He pointed out that Pakistan has three major political parties, and significant projects emerged during PPP governments. He claimed that the Constitution of Pakistan was framed by the PPP, and they achieved nuclear capability and missile technology during their tenure.
He affirmed that the PPP is prepared to provide an account of its 18 years in Sindh. He mentioned that $1 billion had been spent on Thar coal alone, adding that coal is being supplied to the federation, and people should welcome coal extraction in Sindh. He suggested that electricity could be exported from Tharparkar coal for two years.
Memon stated that people from across Pakistan come to Karachi for medical treatment, and hospitals in Sindh do not demand identity cards from patients. He noted that CyberKnife treatment is available free of charge in Sindh, with no budget allocation for patients. The Sindh government has built hospitals throughout the province and introduced air ambulance services operating from Sukkur and Karachi. Lung and liver transplant treatments are also provided free of charge.
Criticizing the MQM, he stated that while they were in power during periods of dictatorship, they did not construct a single hospital in Karachi. He added that no hospitals were built before the PPP’s previous 18-year term as well.
Memon concluded by mentioning that 2.1 million homeless families are being supported by the Sindh government's initiatives.
