Dubai Police’s Anti-Fraud Centre arrested two suspects accused of defrauding residents of AED 11.8 million—approximately more than Rs900 million—through fake phone calls.

According to Gulf media, the suspects posed as representatives of government and international institutions, threatening victims with fake overseas cases and serious consequences. They instructed victims to transfer money abroad for verification, claiming the funds would be returned.

During the investigation, it emerged that the fraud scheme caused total financial losses of AED 11,877,532.

To manipulate victims, the suspects persuaded them to sell their gold jewelry and transfer the proceeds for "verification," and even instructed them to book hotel rooms to isolate them from family and friends.

After receiving complaints, Dubai Police formed a special task force which arrested both suspects based on evidence and fund movements. During questioning, they confessed to receiving victims' data through a specific app in exchange for commissions.

Police Advise:

Dubai Police urged residents to be wary of suspicious calls and messages posing as government institutions or banks. They should never share bank details or transfer money under pressure and report any suspicious activity through the e-Crime platform or the 901 service.
