Fifa is proposing a $3.4 billion (£2.6 billion) increase in its distribution of funding for global football development. This would effectively double the planned allocation for the period 2027-2030.

The initiative will be presented at Fifa's council meeting on Thursday, coming amid pressure on the organization following the failure of Gianni Infantino's Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan to sell stakes in competitions to private investors.

Key Points:

  • Additional Funding: Fifa plans to release money from its reserves, providing an extra $3.4 billion on top of the current $2.7 billion budgeted for distribution.
  • Distribution Breakdown:
    • $25 million (£19 million) per member association
    • $99 million (£75 million) for each of the six confederations
    • $8.25 million (£6.3 million) for 13 zonal/regional associations
    • $1.1 million (£836,000) for 100 member associations for travel and equipment solidarity
  • Funding Priorities: One-third of the funds will be allocated to women's and youth football development, one-third to infrastructure projects (with equal access for women’s and youth football), and the final third to other projects.

This plan requires approval by Fifa's council at its December 2026 meeting and confirmation at the 77th Fifa Congress in March 2027.
