French Town Bans Mosquito Flights, Mayor Issues Order

Mosquitoes could face action if they violate the ban under the French mayor’s unusual order.
PARIS, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Sep, 2026) Fed up with the growing mosquito invasion in a French town, the mayor issued an unusual order that went viral worldwide. Olivier Doli, mayor of Saint-Just-Saint-Rimbr, ordered a ban on mosquito flights, declaring that mosquitoes flying day and night within the town’s boundaries would not be acceptable.
The order warned mosquitoes that action could be taken against them if they violated the ban. However, no mosquito has so far been arrested or fined. The mayor’s order is actually a satirical and symbolic measure aimed at drawing residents’ attention to the growing mosquito problem and the need to prevent their breeding.
Tiger mosquitoes can transmit viruses causing diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika. The local administration has allocated approximately 45,000 Euros to eliminate mosquitoes and prevent their breeding. Mosquito traps, nesting boxes for bats, and various measures to attract birds have also been arranged in the area.
Residents have been instructed not to allow water to accumulate in or around their homes, as stagnant water provides a suitable breeding ground for tiger mosquitoes.
The mayor’s unusual order has sparked an interesting debate on social media. Users say this may be the world’s first war against mosquitoes in which the enemy was formally ordered to vacate the airspace.
According to officials, the purpose of the order is more than a joke: it is intended to remind residents that everyone must play a role in eliminating stagnant water around their homes and in the surrounding area.
Speaking to journalists, the mayor said the ban had not yet been enforced and that no mosquito had been arrested or punished. Although the order appears to be a joke, its fundamental aim is to eliminate mosquitoes from the area.
