NEW YORK, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 25th Sep, 2026) GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi stated that the economic repercussions of the current regional crisis extend far beyond the region, impacting Europe and the global community with disruptions to shipping routes and subsequent increases in commodity, food, and fuel prices.
Addressing the second MED9 Rome Alliance ministerial meeting on fertiliser availability and food security on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly, Albudaiwi highlighted the potential for stronger energy and food security and supply chain resilience between the GCC and EU. He advocated for increased cooperation to mitigate transport and insurance risks, prioritize essential shipments, and advance trade and regulatory cooperation, including negotiations towards a free trade agreement.
According to Albudaiwi, closer GCC-EU collaboration is the most effective strategy to overcome present economic challenges.
