Governor Kundi Stresses Need For Peace In KP, Urges Focus On Public Security
PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Sep, 2026) Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, on Monday emphasized the urgent need for lasting peace in Pakistan, particularly in KP, and called for prioritizing citizen safety over political confrontation.
Addressing a ceremony celebrating the International Day of Democracy and Peace at the Governor House, he highlighted the deteriorating law and order situation in the province, with security personnel, police officers, and civilians continuing to lose their lives in terrorist incidents. Kundi noted that while funerals of martyrs were still being held, political leaders spoke of marching on Islamabad.
He stressed that restoring peace and protecting citizens should be the primary focus of the provincial government. While acknowledging the constitutional right to peaceful protest, Kundi cautioned against announcing confrontational intentions beforehand, which could lead to dangerous consequences.
Referring to recent political developments, he advocated for resolving legal matters through the courts, emphasizing that Imran Khan's release could only come through a judicial process, not protests. He urged all political stakeholders to collectively advocate for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before the federation, reminding them of unfulfilled promises made during the former FATA merger and commitments under the NFC Award.
The event was attended by Former Deputy Speaker of the KP Assembly Kiramatullah Khan Chagarmatti, Provincial Assembly Members (MPAs) Mehr Sultana and Ashber Jadoon, Pakistan Red Crescent KP Chairman Farzand Ali Wazir, and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) provincial leaders. A cake cutting ceremony also marked the 38th birthday of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
