High-level Committee To Probe Nursery Incident: ED PIMS
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - August 26, 2026) | Executive Director, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Dr Imran Sikandar stated that a high-level inquiry committee has been established to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the tragic fire incident at the PIMS nursery.
According to Dr Sikandar, the committee will scrutinize the circumstances surrounding the event, determine the cause of the fire, and review all safety measures and emergency response protocols. He emphasized that staff members were present during the incident and that every aspect of the tragedy would be carefully examined.
Dr Sikandar described the incident as deeply tragic and expressed his sincere condolences to the families affected by the fire. He assured that the hospital administration is providing all possible assistance to these families and that the findings of the inquiry will help identify any shortcomings to prevent future occurrences.
He further highlighted the priority given to patient safety, especially for newborns and vulnerable individuals, under the hospital administration's leadership. Dr Sikandar promised a transparent investigation and revealed that the relevant authorities would be informed once the inquiry is completed.
Earlier, a fire erupted in the nursery at PIMS, leading to the loss of 14 newborn babies. The hospital administration has initiated the process of handing over the deceased infants' bodies to their families following the completion of necessary formalities.
