Jane Dodds Standing Down as Welsh Liberal Democrats Leader
BBC News reports that Jane Dodds is stepping down as the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats.
Dodds, who has been a Senedd member since 2021 and became leader in 2017, states that "now is the right time" to hand over the leadership role as she believes the party needs "a new generation" to increase its presence in the Senedd.
"Leading the Welsh Liberal Democrats has been the honour of my life," she said in a statement.
Only David Chadwick, the party's sole MP, is eligible to seek nomination to replace Dodds at this stage. Nominations will open on 23 October and close on 16 November.
Tim Sly, Welsh Liberal Democrat president, praised Dodds' leadership, stating she has "led our party with warmth, determination and integrity through some of the most turbulent years in Welsh and UK politics."
