KP Introduces Major Curriculum Changes for Grades 9 to 12 After Two Decades

PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – September 15, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced significant changes to the secondary and higher secondary school curriculum after nearly two decades, emphasizing a reduction in academic pressure on students.

The Directorate of Curriculum and Teacher Education (DCTE) and the Elementary and Secondary Education Department have issued directives for the adoption of the new National Curriculum for grades 9 to 12 in eight key subjects:

  • English
  • Urdu
  • Mathematics
  • Computer Science
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Physics
  • General Science.

Under the revised curriculum, teaching topics in subjects like Physics, Biology, and Mathematics have been reduced by over 50 percent to streamline course content and make it more manageable for students.

The authorities have instructed all public and private educational institutions, as well as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board, to prepare textbooks and conduct teaching in line with the updated curriculum. This move aims to modernize the province’s education system and align classroom learning with the revised national curriculum.
