KU, UKAHA Inks MoU To Provide Scholarships To 60 Students
The Karachi University (KU) and the University of Karachi Alumni Houston Association (UKAHA), Texas, United States of America, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide annual financial assistance to deserving KU students on a merit-cum-need basis, in a MoU signing ceremony at the KU Vice Chancellor Secretariat on Wednesday.
Vice Chancellor KU, Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail Jokhio, and representative of UKAHA Feroz Iqbal signed the MoU documents in the presence of KU Registrar, Professor Dr Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, deans, representatives of student financial aid office, student advisors, Director of Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization Professor Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan, team ORIC, former chairperson of Karachi University Business School Dr Abdul Rehman Zaki, KUBS students advisor Dr Sohaib uz Zaman, and others.
Feroz Iqbal briefed the participants that UKAHA has been providing scholarships to 10 KU Business School (KUBS) students annually, in addition to other students. According to the MoU, around 60 students will receive scholarships from the association, with UKAHA willing to further expand this initiative.
He emphasized the keen interest of UKAHA President Azam Khan in supporting talented and deserving KU students.
Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail expressed gratitude for UKAHA’s role, stating that this demonstrates their commitment to KU. He suggested establishing an endowment fund by pooling contributions from KU alumni, philanthropists, NGOs, individuals, and others to secure financial support for KU students. He believed this could attract more donors and funding for student scholarships and maintaining KU’s infrastructure.
"We need to assure donors that their funds will be securely utilized for the intended purposes. Demonstrating transparency in the management and expenditure of received funds can lead to attracting more donors and securing substantial funding for students and KU’s valuable resources," he stated.
