Petrol prices have skyrocketed by Rs6.88 per litre, while diesel has increased by Rs5.62 per litre. The new rates are set at Rs391.22 per litre for petrol and Rs421.45 per litre for diesel. These changes will take effect from midnight tonight.
This surge in prices is attributed to the continued high international crude oil and petroleum product prices. Global oil prices have been climbing, reaching nearly $108 per barrel, although there was a slight dip after Saudi Arabia offered to supply additional crude via Oman.
According to US news agency Associated Press, Brent crude fell by 83 cents to $107.92 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude declined by $1.41 to $104.42 per barrel. The report highlights Saudi Arabia's efforts to ease global supply pressures by transporting crude oil through an alternative route near Oman.
This move comes amidst declining commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about the world's crude oil and energy product supply. Despite Saudi Arabia's initiative, volatile oil prices are expected to persist due to ongoing regional tensions.
