Minister Pledges Reforms to Boost Food Security, Rural Economy
Astore, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 22nd Aug, 2026) An introductory and reception meeting was held at the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, in honour of newly appointed Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Anwar Ali.
The meeting, attended by the Secretary Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, senior officers, and members of the department’s administrative team, provided an opportunity for the Secretary to warmly welcome Minister Ali and introduce him to the team.
The Secretary gave a detailed briefing on the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors, emphasizing their crucial roles in:
- Ensuring food security
- Strengthening the rural economy
- Creating employment opportunities
- Promoting overall economic development in Gilgit-Baltistan.
He also outlined the department’s vision, highlighting efforts to:
- Modernize the agriculture sector
- Promote livestock and fisheries
- Increase agricultural and livestock production
- Expand value addition
- Create new business opportunities.
With a focus on sustainability, the Secretary noted the department’s aim to provide sustainable employment opportunities for youth and women through the development of these sectors.
Expressing hope for effective implementation of the department’s reform agenda, the Secretary believed that under Minister Ali’s leadership, the benefits would reach farmers, livestock owners, fishermen, and local communities across Gilgit-Baltistan.
Minister Anwar Ali, in his address, appreciated the detailed briefing and emphasized the importance of conducting all departmental affairs according to merit, law, rules, regulations, and transparency. He encouraged officers to prioritize public service and perform their duties with dedication, integrity, and professionalism.
Reaffirming his commitment to the development of the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors, Minister Ali pledged not to spare any effort for the welfare of farmers and livestock owners, increasing agricultural production, and aligning the sector with modern requirements.
Noting the government’s vision of "From Farms to Future," he promised to implement practical measures to promote modern agricultural practices, enhance production, create new employment opportunities, and improve the economic well-being of the people.
He stressed the potential of agriculture, livestock, and fisheries to drive the economy of Gilgit-Baltistan and called for further strengthening these sectors through effective planning, modern technology, and sustainable development.
