ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 20th Aug, 2026)

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhary stated that work is underway on the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy, aiming to harness the sector’s potential to generate up to $10 billion through strategic policies.

During a meeting to assess the performance, progress, and achievements of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and its attached departments, the minister emphasized:

  • Enhancing the ease of doing business in the maritime sector by simplifying procedures and engaging stakeholders.
  • Integrating industry perspectives and recommendations into policies and initiatives concerning sea-based economic activities.

He announced the completion of a one-window operation model, inspired by the Khidmat Centres, to streamline government services for businesses, reducing delays and enhancing investor accessibility.

Chaudhary also highlighted the development of a 100-acre off-dock terminal at Gwadar Port, fortifying regional logistics connectivity with Central Asian Republics (CARs). This terminal will improve cargo handling and further solidify Gwadar’s role as a gateway to trade with landlocked CARs.

The meeting also discussed a $3 million Global Environment Facility (GEF)-backed project for marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable fishing practices. The minister underscored the necessity of balancing economic development with environmental protection, especially in preserving marine and coastal ecosystems.

Additionally, Chaudhary called for a comprehensive strategy to utilize reclaimed port land, generating economic resources and contributing to Pakistan’s blue economy.

The meeting reviewed ongoing initiatives and projects, with the minister emphasizing timely completion and improved stakeholder coordination.
