MOCCAE Announces Commencement of First Phase of Women Farmer Field Schools Programme

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has launched the initial phase of the Women Farmer Field Schools (FFS) programme, a significant initiative under the "Empowering Women Farmers" campaign. This programme is a testament to the crucial role women play in fostering sustainable agricultural development, food security, and economic opportunities within the agricultural sector.

The initiative was inspired by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. It was launched during the First Emirati Women Farmers Forum, held as part of the second Emirates Agriculture Conference and Exhibition in Al Ain in April 2026.

Key Highlights:

  • Timing: Launching on Emirati Women’s Day, the programme aligns with the UAE’s designation of 2026 as the "Year of Family," emphasizing women’s contribution to sustainable agricultural practices within families and communities.
  • Objective: MOCCAE will hold a virtual introductory session on August 27, 2026, providing a platform for Emirati women farmers and beekeepers to grasp the programme’s objectives, pillars, and participation processes.
  • Training: Field-based training will commence in September 2026, conducted across farms and agricultural sites in various emirates.
  • Focus: The programme will equip women farmers with practical skills and knowledge to enhance agricultural production and optimize their farming operations. It will cover sustainable palm tree management, pest control, irrigation, fertilization, apiary management, and honey production.
  • Benefits: Participants will also learn agricultural record-keeping, enabling them to engage in local and international agricultural exhibitions, promote their products, and expand their businesses.

Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Food Diversity Sector at MOCCAE, emphasized that empowering women farmers is a strategic move towards ensuring food security and a key aspect of transferring sustainable agricultural and environmental knowledge.
