National Paigham-e-Aman Committee Completes First Year: A Platform for Interfaith Harmony and National Unity

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Sep, 2026) Prime Minister’s Coordinator for the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, has highlighted the committee’s achievements during its first year, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening interfaith harmony, national unity, and Pakistan’s collective response to extremism and terrorism.

A Unique National Initiative

Addressing a media briefing on the completion of one year of the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee, Ashrafi noted that it was established on September 9, 2025, per the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. The committee reflects a broader vision of leveraging Pakistan’s religious leadership as a force for peace, tolerance, national cohesion, and stability.

He emphasized that forming this committee marked an important development in Pakistan's history because it brought together leaders of various Muslim schools of thought alongside representatives from non-Muslim faith communities at a national level for the first time.

A Shared Vision for Peace and Unity

The committee aims to give practical expression to the principles of Paigham-e-Pakistan and forge a unified national response to:

  • Extremism
  • Terrorism
  • Sectarian violence
  • Hate speech
  • Religious intolerance

Building Bridges: Uniting Religious Leaders

According to Ashrafi, a notable achievement was fostering unity among religious scholars and leaders from diverse schools of thought. He recalled that critics had previously claimed that such scholars could not even pray together. However, the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee successfully organized joint appearances and collective prayers, challenging this perception.

Religious leaders from different schools of thought participated in gatherings at prominent institutions like Jamia-tul-Rasheed, Jamia Ashrafia, Minhaj-ul-Quran, and others, publicly demonstrating that religious differences need not divide society. A recent multi-faith delegation comprising Christian, Hindu, Shia, and Sunni representatives also visited Jamia Ashrafia together, reaffirming their commitment to tolerance, mutual respect, and social cohesion.

Sending a Powerful Message

Ashrafi emphasized that these initiatives sent a powerful message that Pakistan’s religious leadership could stand united on national issues while respecting legitimate differences of faith and jurisprudence.
