The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday issued a flood alert for vulnerable areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Balochistan, warning of potential risks due to expected rains until September 17. These rains could trigger:
- Flash floods
- Rising water levels in rivers, streams, and nullahs
- Urban flooding
NDMA directed relevant authorities to make advance preparations to protect lives and property.
Alert Details:
- Gilgit-Baltistan: Gilgit, Diamer, Ghizer, Ishkoman, Gupis-Yasin, Nagar, Hunza, Shimshal, Skardu, and Shigar.
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Upper Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Malakand, Kurram, Kohistan, Mohmand, and Orakzai.
- Balochistan: Zhob, Sherani, and Musakhel.
Urban flooding risks were also identified in Islamabad and several parts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Sheikhupura.
NDMA advised citizens to:
- Avoid crossing swollen streams, rainwater channels, etc.
- Obtain weather updates through the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App.
- Call 911 in case of any flood-related emergency.
