Over 5.24 Million Driving Licences Issued in Punjab This Year
Punjab Police have issued more than 5.242 million driving licences across the province during the current year as part of their ongoing measures to ensure compliance with traffic laws and improve public service delivery.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson on Tuesday, over 6.487 million challans had been issued for violations of traffic laws, resulting in fines exceeding Rs12.19 billion.
The spokesperson revealed that challans were also given to:
- 47,152 vehicles emitting smoke
- 6,921 vehicles impounded at police stations
- 28 vehicles had their fitness certificates confiscated for violations.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem directed continued action against traffic law violators without interruption and emphasised the need to ensure compliance with amended laws, reforms, and modern systems. He specifically instructed police to:
- Crack down on overloading
- Address overspeeding
- Stop underage driving
- Enforce one-way traffic rules
The IGP further ordered strict action against violations and directed officials to recover outstanding traffic fines from defaulters. These measures aim to improve road safety, ensure compliance with traffic laws, and provide better services to citizens.
