Pakistan today observed its Defence Day and Martyrs' Day in Germany with fervor. Pakistani expatriates gathered in Berlin and Hamburg to honor the armed forces, commemorate the 1965 war, and reaffirm their commitment to Pakistan.
In Berlin, a gathering organized by Muhammad Anser Butt, General Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Germany and POEF Europe Chief Organizer, highlighted the significance of September 6, 1965. Butt paid tribute to the resilience and courage of Pakistan's armed forces during the war. He emphasized the support of Pakistani expatriates for their country and its institutions.
A separate event was held in Hamburg by Farid Shah, Vice President of the Pakistan-Germany Society and Information Secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Germany. Shah described the 1965 war as a pivotal moment in Pakistan's history, showcasing national unity, courage, and determination. He expressed confidence in the country’s leadership.
Ghazanfar-ud-Din Ahmed, founding president of the Central Multicultural Mosque, hosted another special gathering where prayers were offered for the martyrs who laid down their lives defending Pakistan. Recalling President Ayub Khan's address during the 1965 war, Ahmed noted its inspiring impact on fostering a strong sense of unity and national resolve.
Shah Rukh Mahmood, a Lahore-based article writer and vlogger present at the gathering, shared memories of the spirit demonstrated by Lahorites during the 1965 war, where ordinary citizens actively supported the armed forces.
These gatherings in Germany conveyed a powerful message: despite their distance from home, Pakistani expatriates remain deeply connected to Pakistan and remember the sacrifices made for its defence. Participants offered prayers for the martyrs and expressed hopes for the country's peace, stability, sovereignty, and prosperity.
