Pakistan Lambasts India Over Cross-border Terrorism, Kashmir, IWT at UN
Pakistan, exercising its right of reply at United Nations, here, criticised India’s position on cross-border terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).
First Secretary, Adeel Mumtaz Khokhar said India’s allegations of cross-border terrorism were contradicted by cases involving
Indian nationals and officials accused by
Pakistan of espionage and involvement in acts of terrorism or transnational crime.
He referred to Indian naval officer
Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was arrested by Pakistan and convicted by a Pakistani court on espionage and terrorism-related charges.
Khokhar also cited allegations concerning Indian agents and nationals in cases involving alleged assassination plots abroad.
On the Indus Waters Treaty, Khokhar rejected India’s position that it could suspend or terminate the agreement, saying international law and treaty obligations could not be applied selectively. He referred to a August 31 decision by the Permanent Court of Arbitration, which affirmed that the Indus Waters Treaty remained in force and that India was required to comply with its obligations under the agreement.
Khokhar also raised the longstanding dispute over Jammu and Kashmir, calling on India to implement relevant
United Nations Security Council resolutions and respect the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. He further urged India to address allegations of involvement in activities beyond its borders and to honour its obligations under the Indus Waters Treaty.
