BEIJING (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Sep, 2026) – At the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, the world's largest and most influential vocational skills competition, Pakistan’s cooking competitor, Mohid Mehboob, is not only displaying culinary prowess but also sharing the flavors and traditions of his country.

“Pakistan is participating for the first time in WorldSkills,” Mohid shared, highlighting that the team is competing in cooking, electrical installation, and graphic design. For the culinary segment, he noted, they prepared meticulously over six months with continuous training and guidance from German experts, ensuring they were well-prepared.

Regarding Pakistan’s culinary representation, Mohid introduced a unique spice blend called garam masala, describing it as aromatic and spicy, similar to Chinese five-spice. He emphasized that spices are integral to Pakistani cuisine, featuring in almost every dish, from karahi to biryani.

While maintaining national identity through traditional flavors while adhering to international standards presents a challenge, Mohid believes spices offer a solution. “We use spices that are very rare, much like Chinese people do,” he said.

He expressed his positive experience in China, commending the country’s cuisine and describing Shanghai as a modern metropolis with excellent infrastructure and impressive cars.

As a student at the College of Tourism & Hotel Management (COTHM), Mohid also voiced hope for stronger collaboration between China and Pakistan in technical and vocational education and training (TVET). According to Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, a new China-Pakistan TVET initiative signed in January 2026 aims to train over 50,000 Pakistani youth and develop approximately 2,000 master trainers within five years.
