PPP Will Protect Poor, Flood Victims, Says Punjab Governor
Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has stated that despite the Governor’s office being a constitutional position, practical steps have been taken for the rehabilitation of flood-affected people, including house construction for poor families. He promised to expand this assistance.
While speaking to the media in Chiniot on Tuesday, the Governor noted that governments with sufficient resources should have built thousands of houses for flood victims if they genuinely cared about helping the poor. He emphasized that it is the government's responsibility to provide basic facilities and protection during times of hardship. The Governor also expressed concern over rising inflation, attributing it to soaring electricity load-shedding and petroleum prices.
Referring to PPP policies, Khan highlighted that the party prioritizes employment opportunities for the poor and working class. He criticized previous governments for affecting jobs of lower-grade employees by declaring them surplus in the name of austerity. The PPP, he said, believes in protecting workers' rights and providing opportunities at different educational levels.

- Political Cooperation with PML-N: He expressed confidence in PPP’s future and called for political cooperation with PML-N, appealing to voters to elect Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as Prime Minister.
- Flood Rehabilitation and Future Plans: The Governor confirmed continued efforts for flood rehabilitation, employment opportunities, and basic facilities. He also announced expansion of assistance to affected families through the Punjab Red Crescent.
