Pakistan: PPP’s Democratic Struggle Marked by Sacrifices, Says Shazia Mari

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Information Secretary Shazia Mari has emphasized that the PPP’s identity is deeply intertwined with its democratic struggle, which forms a significant part of its historical narrative, ideology, and sacrifices. In a message on Democracy Day, she highlighted the party’s contributions to Pakistan’s democratic landscape.

According to Ms. Mari, the PPP played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s democracy by introducing the Constitution of 1973. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the party, laid the foundation for democratic principles by asserting that the people are the source of power. She also mentioned the sacrifices made by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who dedicated her life to democracy.

Mari described the PPP’s democratic journey as a testament to resilience, with its leadership and workers enduring hardships in prisons, on the streets, and within parliament to restore democracy. The Constitution, parliament, and the rights of the people are considered the core pillars of this struggle.

The PPP, she emphasized, upholds constitutional supremacy, parliamentary dignity, and the sovereignty of the people. "The people are the source of power, while parliament is their voice," Mari stated.

On Democracy Day, the PPP renews its commitment to continuing the fight for democracy, constitutional authority, and the protection of the people’s fundamental rights. Mari also praised PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for his effective advocacy of parliamentary supremacy and a strong, democratic Pakistan.
