Prince Harry and Meghan Land in UK Days After Announcing Move
BBC News understands that Prince Harry, Meghan, and their children Archie and Lilibet have arrived back in the UK. They are believed to have flown into the country privately from California and landed in Birmingham shortly before midday.
A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex declined to comment on the matter. According to a source, there was no apparent police presence as the family left the airport.
Last week, it was announced that the couple would be relocating to the UK in August. They will not resume official duties but will live in Britain as non-working royals. The family is expected to base themselves at a private property outside London in the Cotswolds area.
Archie and Lilibet have started school, with the new term beginning next week.
The Sussexes left the UK and stepped back from their royal duties in early 2020, settling in California in March of that year. King Charles was informed of their plans earlier this month, during a visit to Highgrove in July.
Security Concerns
The Sussexes’ security in the UK has been a point of contention. Prince Harry lost a legal battle last year over the security arrangements he and his family are entitled to while in the country. It remains unclear what security provisions will be made for them upon their return and who will cover the costs.
A Home Office spokesperson previously stated that decisions regarding royal security are made by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), and the UK’s protective security system is "rigorous and proportionate."
Prince Harry has expressed safety concerns as a reason for his reluctance to visit the UK previously, and last month, he and six other public figures lost a privacy case against Associated Newspapers, facing potential legal costs of up to £34.5 million.
