Punjab Assembly Illegal Recruitment Case: No Indictment Yet
LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th Sep, 2026) An Anti-Corruption Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a case involving alleged illegal recruitment in the Punjab Assembly against former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and others, as charges could not be framed against the accused due to incomplete attendance.
Anti-Corruption Court Judge Javed Iqbal Warraich was hearing the case. Former principal secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti appeared before the court, while other co-accused also marked their attendance.
However, former chief minister Parvez Elahi could not appear before the court due to illness. His counsel submitted an application seeking a one-day exemption from personal appearance.
As the attendance of all accused could not be completed, the court deferred further proceedings and adjourned the hearing until October 7. The court also sought arguments on the acquittal plea filed by co-accused Mukhtar Ranjha.
Parvez Elahi and other accused have been charged with allegedly making appointments in the Punjab Assembly on grounds other than merit. The individuals who were allegedly recruited in the case have also been nominated as co-accused. The Anti-Corruption Establishment has already submitted its challan in the case before the court.
