Punjab Govt Approves Rs36bn Dadocha Dam Project For Clean Water Supply To Rawalpindi

The Punjab government has approved the construction of a surface water treatment plant and water supply system at Dadocha Dam to provide clean drinking water to the residents of Rawalpindi. According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Housing Department, the project is estimated to cost Rs36 billion and is scheduled for completion by December 2029.

Under the project, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will construct the water supply system, while 35 million gallons of treated water per day will be added to Rawalpindi’s supply network. The spokesperson stated that this initiative, approved under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, would significantly enhance the availability of safe and clean drinking water for the city’s residents.

Upon completion of the dam, WASA will commence work on the transmission line and water supply network, as per the Housing Department’s plans. The government considers this project a major step towards establishing a sustainable and secure water supply system in Rawalpindi, aiming to ensure a reliable source of clean and safe drinking water for its population.
