Reform MSP quits party to sit as independent

Reform MSP Amanda Bland resigns to sit as independent

BBC News reports that MSP Amanda Bland has resigned from Reform UK Scotland to sit as an independent. This move relegates Reform UK Scotland to the third-largest group at Holyrood, with one less member than Labour.

Bland, who represents Central Scotland and Lothians West as a list MSP, has not yet commented publicly on her resignation. Reform UK Scotland has called for her to step down from parliament, stating:

"Amanda Bland should reflect on her reasons for choosing to isolate herself from that team of capable individuals. It is incumbent on her to resign as a regional MSP for Central Scotland and Lothians West and allow her constituents to be represented by the next Reform candidate on that list."

According to Holyrood rules, a list MSP's vacancy would be filled by their party's next candidate from the last election. Bland, a former primary school teacher and police officer, was one of 17 Reform candidates elected to the Scottish Parliament in May, marking the party's electoral breakthrough in Scotland.

This story is developing; more details will be added as they become available.
