SMEDA Gears Up To Connect SMEs With Japan’s B2B Platform

SMEDA (Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority) has entered into a collaboration with Japan’s Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation (SMRJ) to assist Pakistani small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in joining ‘J-GoodTech’ – an online B2B platform. This initiative marks another step in SMEDA’s internationalization drive, aiming to help Pakistani enterprises expand beyond domestic markets and integrate into global value chains, as disclosed by officials.

Background

The collaboration is guided by the Ministry of Industries and Production (MoI&P) and aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of an export-oriented economy. Through this platform, Pakistani SMEs can:

  • Explore distributorship agreements.
  • Receive orders from Japanese buyers.
  • Establish joint ventures.
  • Pursue technical collaboration with companies worldwide.

Objectives

The partnership emphasizes SMEDA’s commitment to connecting Pakistani businesses with international markets and technology partners. The initiative aims to create opportunities for SMEs to:

  • Expand their customer base.
  • Strengthen their capabilities.
  • Participate in cross-border commercial opportunities.

Process

Interested enterprises can register through the SMEDA website (https://smeda.org/). SMEDA will review applications and forward eligible cases to SMRJ for creating company profiles on the platform. The process ensures that only credible and export-ready businesses are considered.

Sectors of Interest

The initiative particularly focuses on sectors like advanced manufacturing, medical equipment, and eco-technology, although enterprises from all sectors are welcome to participate.

Broader Collaboration

This collaboration is part of SMEDA’s ongoing efforts to form partnerships with international development institutions, technology platforms, and business networks. Recent collaborations include partnerships with Alibabab.com, JICA, and engagements with counterparts in Russia, Uzbekistan, and Malaysia.
