Special Olympics UAE will participate in the second phase of the 10th Special Olympics MENA Regional Games, held in Cairo from September 17 to 23, 2026. The Games follow a new regional model, hosted across five countries.

In Cairo, Special Olympics UAE will have a 28-member delegation, including coaches, technical and support staff, and 15 athletes. They will compete across four sports: rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, powerlifting, and equestrian.

In preparation, the athletes have followed a rigorous training program, including specialized technical and physical training in their respective sports. The focus has been on skill development, strengthening technical and physical readiness, and building confidence to perform at their best.

Talal Al Hashmi, National Director of Special Olympics UAE, stated:

"This participation marks another significant step in our journey to empower our athletes and boost their confidence. We aim to provide more competitive opportunities, allowing them to showcase their skills and experiences. We are confident in their preparation and believe they will represent the UAE with pride."

He added:

"These competitions are crucial for athlete qualification and preparation for the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Santiago, Chile, in 2027."

The 10th Special Olympics MENA Regional Games introduce a new organizational model. Instead of a single-city hosting every four years, the Regional Presidency has adopted a multi-country, multi-city approach, with competitions held throughout the MENA region annually.

The UAE delegation's program begins with their arrival in Cairo on September 17, followed by training and divisioning on September 18. Divisioning continues on September 19, alongside the official Opening Ceremony. Finals and medal ceremonies will take place on September 20, followed by the Host Town Program and Egyptian Cultural Day on September 21. The Closing Ceremony is scheduled for September 22, with delegations departing on September 23, 2026.
