Javon Walton: The Boxer Who Accidentally Became an Actor

BBC Sport explores the story of Javon Walton, the boxer-turned-actor who rose to fame as the tattooed drug dealer "Ashtray" in HBO's Euphoria.

Boxing Beginnings

Javon Walton has spent much of his life in the spotlight, be it on stage, screen, or in the ring. His journey into boxing began at a young age, influenced by his boxing-loving parents. At just four years old, he begged his dad to take him to a gym, and the rest is history.

Walton has had an impressive amateur career, winning silver at the Junior Olympics twice, and is currently undefeated as a professional with three wins and a draw. He is represented by Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian's Most Valuable Promotions.

From the Ring to the Screen

Walton's love for boxing led him to Euphoria, but it wasn't his first foray into acting. At age 11, he showcased his boxing skills and gymnastics on Steve Harvey's show, leading to a casting call for Euphoria.

This accidental acting career blossomed with appearances in Utopia, The Umbrella Academy, and Samaritan. He found a unique outlet for his emotions in acting, a stark contrast to the physicality of boxing.

Balancing Two Careers

Now a professional boxer, Walton is preparing for a fight against former UFC champion and Olympic gold medallist Henry Cejudo. However, balancing his boxing and acting careers is a challenge.

"My goal is to see how well I can balance both but that's easier said than done," he says. "I kind of have to pick one to focus on."

For now, Cejudo is his primary focus, and he aims to make a successful transition from actor to boxer in the ring.
